about

That Cold Grey light is a work of urgency. Originally intended to be a short EP following the release of Tadzio’s second full length album The Sick Room (2019), the initial songs blossomed into an epic song cycle detailing stages of grief, rage and the aching discomfort that comes in the wake of acceptance. In a way, That Cold Grey Light begins in a stark cry but ends with a voluptuous sigh of contemplation and acceptance. 2019 was a difficult year for many members of the group. The sudden death of loved one close to the group made this project one of utmost necessity, an uproarious cry for help and a message of gratitude that music does not merely excite or enervate but can heal. The album balances the lyrical powers of Lipton and Kapeluck equally in a yin and yang fashion, with both songwriters contributing equally over the 12 tracks. This release also showcases the ensemble’s newest members. Founder of Blight Records, Ben Schurr who had produced Tadzio’s E.P. The Complaint (2018), joined the group (bass, synths, percussion) and produced the album. Dan Angel (Ugh God, Sun Organ) also joined the group on drums for several of the tracks, adding a percussive intensity hitherto unheard in Tadzio’s oeuvre. The magisterial viola of Hannah Burris (Coven Tree,Teething Veils) also adds texture, creating a richer symphonic quality.

about

Tadzio Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Tadzio is an ensemble of Philadelphia/D.C. based musicians who share an interest in creating evocative
sonic landscapes that blend warm acoustic tones
(harp, piano, flute, percussion) with electronic
instrumentation with an uneasy lushness that recalls both
the soaring verticality of a symphony hall and the
distorted hum of a basement noise show.
